Sumy region police officer exposed taking undue advantage

On Oct. 16, 2022, NABU and SAPO served suspicion notices to an officer of the National Police Investigative Department in the Sumy region and his accomplice, a lawyer, who had been caught red-handed a day earlier. Their actions fall under Part 3 Art. 368 and Part 4 Article 27, Part 3 Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

As established, the officer incited an entrepreneur to give him an illegal benefit for terminating criminal proceedings and allegedly bribing the leadership of the regional prosecutor's office.

The suspect wanted USD 10 thousand, however, traded down to USD 8 thousand. The funds were to be transferred in two tranches through an accomplice. During the transfer of the first one, USD 5 thousand, he was exposed.

Both suspects were arrested under Art. 208 of the CPC of Ukraine and taken to the detention center.

NABU started investigating the facts after a report by the entrepreneur.
