NABU, SAPO prevent attempted bribery of anti-corruption prosecutor

On Nov. 11, 2022, NABU and SAPO exposed two people, who incited a person accused in a case currently being heard in the High Anti-Corruption Court to provide an undue advantage for the alleged bribery of a SAPO prosecutor. The latter, in turn, had to offer the accused a plea deal.

Both were detained immediately after receiving a part of the bribe worth USD 50,000. On Nov. 12, 2022, they were notified of suspicion under Part 4 Art. 27, Part 3 Art. 369, Part 4 Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The actions of one of them also fall under Part 3 Art. 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

As established, the accused in the case of attempted bribery of the NABU and SAPO leadership received the plea deal offer in 2020. Since then, the fraudsters have repeatedly changed the price and flaunted their connections within NABU, SAPO, and the HACC, which had to convince the "client" to accept the offer. In the end, the price reached above USD 1.8 million.

The investigation of the crime was started at the request of the accused.
