NABU jointly with the “Ukrzaliznytsia” will combat corruption at state enterprise
The Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Public Joint-Stock Company (PJSC) “Ukrzaliznytsia” (Ukrainian railways) will exchange information for the prevention, detection and fight against corruption. With this purpose, the NABU Director Artem Sytnyk and the Head of “Ukrzaliznytsia” Volodymyr Zhmak signed a Memorandum on Understating on October 30, 2020.
“The NABU Detectives pay high attention to exposing and investigating corruption at “Ukrzaliznytsia”. A large number of corruption risks at the state enterprise creates a heavy burden on the NABU Detectives. There were times when the whole Department of the NABU Detectives was investigating abuse of office at “Ukrzaliznytsia”, the NABU Director Artem Sytnyk said.
The Head of “Ukrzaliznytsia” Volodymyr Zhmak noted that he considered the reduction of corruption risks in the activities of the state enterprise to be a priority of his work.
It became the basis for signing the Memorandum with the National Bureau to increase the effectiveness of cooperation. Artem Sytnyk and Volodymyr Zhmak also discussed the implementation of preventive measures against corruption such as, for example, holding consultations with the Supervisory Board of the “Ukrzaliznytsia” and participation of the NABU Director in its meetings.

The NABU Detectives investigate 29 criminal proceedings 12 persons were given notices of suspicion within these cases. Among the suspects there are the Members of Parliament of Ukraine, “Ukrzaliznytsia” officials and representatives of commercial companies.
11 indictments as of 29 persons were sent to court. The total amount of established losses in these cases amounts UAH 420 million.
Most of the accused persons are former and acting “Ukrzaliznytsia” officials and the representatives of commercial companies involved in corruption schemes.
