The NABU special forces studied the American witness protection programme

The employees of the National Bureau's Special Operations Department studied the experience of their colleagues from the U.S. Marshals Service in the sphere of witness protection in corruption-related criminal proceedings. The U.S. Marshals also conducted training sessions on ensuring safety of inpidual persons during the two-day seminar that took place on 11-12 April.

The seminar was attended by representatives of the Specialized Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Law Enforcement Section of the U.S. Embassy, the Office for international development of the U.S. Department of Justice Prosecutor's Office and the Rapid Operational Response Unit (KORD) of the National Police of Ukraine.

The parties discussed legal framework of witness protection in Ukraine and considered possibilities of cooperation between the NABU, Specialized Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office and the KORD in the sphere of protecting witnesses in corruption-related proceedings.

It should be reminded that in Ukraine witness protection is regulated by the Law “On ensuring safety of persons participating in criminal proceedings”.
