SSU cyber security officer notified of suspicion

Detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU), under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO), together with the Security Service Internal Security Department, caught an operative of the SSU Department of Counterintelligence Protection of the State's Information Security Interests red-handed receiving USD 60,000 in undue advantage. On July 27, 2022, the officer was notified of suspicion of committing an offense under Part 4 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

As established, the suspect provided operational support in the investigation of cryptocurrency crimes. In particular, he was entitled to take measures to detect criminal offenses, initiate financial and economic activity checks, as well as perform investigative and covert investigative actions within the framework of criminal proceedings. During a search as part of the investigation in a cryptocurrency mining case, he told an entrepreneur that his problems with law enforcement could be solved for USD 60,000.

Despite his using conspiracy measures the officer was exposed red-handed and detained under Art. 208 of the CPC of Ukraine on July 26.

The exposure became possible thanks to the entrepreneur's report and concerted efforts by NABU, SAPO, and the SSU Internal Security Department.
