Ex-Kyiv court judge case: indictment sent to court
On Nov. 15, 2021, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) issued an indictment regarding the ex-judge of the Dniprovskyi District Court of Kyiv, who demanded and received USD 150 thousand of improper advantage. The actions of the accused fall under Part 4 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (“Accepting an offer, promise or receiving an improper advantage by authorized person in a responsible position, accompanied by extortion”).
On Aug. 9, 2016, NABU exposed the judge red-handed, while the Verkhovna Rada sanctioned his arrest and prosecution. Taking advantage of his judicial immunity, the suspect went into hiding and eventually fled Ukraine (the criminal proceedings into his illegal movement across the state border of Ukraine are currently being investigated by the SSU). On Aug. 16, 2016, the judge was declared nationally wanted, and later - internationally wanted.
In Feb. 2017, the ex-judge was detained in Moldova, while NABU requested his extradition.
In April 2021, the fugitive was kidnapped in Chisinau. His whereabouts had been unknown until July 2021, when the ex-judge emerged in a village in Vinnytsia region.
On Aug. 3, NABU detained the ex-judge at Kyiv's Feofaniia Hospital.
On Aug. 4, the High Anti-Corruption Court sent the ex-judge under 24-hour house arrest and ordered him to surrender his passports and wear an electronic surveillance device.
On Aug. 6, 2021, NABU and SAPO disclosed the case materials for review.
