Attempt to bribe StateGeoCadastre Head: probe completed

The Detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) have completed a pre-trial investigation into an attempted bribery of the head of the State Service of Ukraine for Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre (StateGeoCadastre).

On June 2, 2021, the case file was disclosed to the StateGeoCadastre Territorial Department acting head and a person who brokered the deal. The actions of the suspect fall under Part 4 Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The investigation has revealed that in November 2020 the head of the StateGeoCadastre accepted USD 26.9 thousand - the first tranche of a USD 170-thousand bribe. The funds were given for the issuance of orders to allocate land plots to straw persons.

In December 2020, the NABU Detectives detained the abovementioned persons red-handed giving another part of the bribe in the amount of USD 25 thousand.

NABU started the investigation in September 2020 after StateGeoCadastre Head Roman Leschenko reported he had been offered the bribe.

 

According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered not-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
