NABU, SAPO expose bribery of Poltava judge

On Dec. 13-19, 2022, NABU and SAPO notified two lawyers and a person who claimed to be a lawyer's assistant of suspicion of an attempt to bribe a judge of the Poltava Court of Appeal.

As established, a person who received a protocol for drunk driving approached the "lawyer's assistant" with a request to help get the court's decision in his favor. The latter admitted he could settle everything with a judge for a "reward" through a lawyer he knew. However, something went wrong, and the court found the man guilty. The same persons then promised him to cancel the decision through an appeal procedure for USD 1,800. The money was meant for a judge of the Poltava Court of Appeal and had to be provided in two tranches - USD 300 and USD 1,500. After transferring the second tranche, NABU and SAPO, together with the Poltava region police, exposed the crime.
