Kyiv saved Obolonsky Island thanks to NABU
NABU and SAPO, in cooperation with the Kyiv City State Administration, prevented the illegal alienation of Obolonsky Island with an area of 147.7 thousand square meters, located next to the Natalka park, into private ownership. The Central Board of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine satisfied complaint filed by Pleso Utility Company on the cancellation of ownership of the island by a private company.
The NABU Detectives established that in 2019-2020, the hydrotechnical structure "Multifunctional Pressure Dam" located near the Obolon embankment was withdrawn from the property of the Kyiv territorial community.
According to the register, the hydrotechnical structure area is almost 143,000 square meters, which almost coincides with the Obolonsky Island area (147,700 square meters).
However, the ownership of the dam was illegally issued to a private company. At the same time, the balance holder of Obolonsky Island is Pleso Utility Company and it belongs to the Kyiv community, according to the City Register. In addition, Obolonsky Island is included in the list of territories where the Dnipro Islands landscape park would be created, for which appropriate funds were allocated from the city budget.
NABU jointly with the Kyiv City State Administration prepared a complaint regarding cancellation of ownership registration based on the investigation materials. The Ministry of Justice satisfied this complaint. In addition, the notary involved in this illegal registration was deprived of his license, and another was banned from working until all the circumstances are clarified.
The NABU Detectives started the investigation of these facts based on materials of Schemes: Corruption In Details investigative TV-program. The case was then transferred to another pre-trial investigation agency as per jurisdiction.
