Kyiv region judge faces forfeiture of more than UAH 5.7 million in NABU, SAPO case

Based on NABU materials, SAPO appealed to the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) to declare the assets belonging to a judge of the Kyiv Region District Court unjustified and confiscate them to the state budget. The claim for civil confiscation was filed on Jan. 18, 2022.

According to NABU materials, the judge became the owner of a 142-square-meter apartment in Kyiv and a car, the total value of both reaching UAH 6.7 million. However, the analysis of property and income showed that the money used to purchase these assets could not come from the legal income of the judge.

If the claim is granted, UAH 5.7 million, the legality of origin of which raises reasonable doubts, can be confiscated to the state budget. This became possible after the Law of Ukraine "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Confiscation of Illegal Assets of Persons Authorized to Perform State or Local Self-Government Functions and Punishment for Acquisition of Such Assets" took effect in November 2019.

As previously reported, in August 2021, the HACC recognized over UAH 1.2 million belonging to an MP as unjustified and confiscated it into state income. According to the asset declaration, the MP received these funds from the lease of real estate (a pulp pit). However, he obtained the funds illegally, as he did not own the asset.
