MP suspected of trade in border crossing permits
On July 11, NABU and SAPO announced suspicion of abuse of influence against a sitting member of the Ukrainian parliament.
As established, the MP, along with her aide, undertook to secure the issuance of a border crossing permit by a regional military administration for USD 5,300. They also undertook to secure the input of relevant data in the Shliakh information system.
Subsequently, the permit was issued.
After receiving a second tranche (USD 2,800) of the undue benefit, the MP and her aide were caught red-handed.
On July 9, the MP's aide was notified of suspicion, her actions falling under Part 2 Article 28, Part 2 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered not-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
