17 suspects, 44 new investigations — NABU, SAPO's results in November
NABU and SAPO started 44 investigations, served suspicion notices on 17 persons, and sent six indictments against 12 persons to court. Two convictions against two persons took effect. These are the results of NABU and SAPO in November 2022.
During the last month, a number of high-profile cases were referred to court. In particular, regarding:
- three persons accused of embezzling over UAH 14 million during the construction of apartment buildings for border guards;
- an incumbent MP accused of misstatements in his 2020 e-declaration worth almost UAH 1.79 million;
- the ex-prosecutor of the General Prosecutor's Office accused of acquisition of property and official forgery;
- the judge of the Kyiv District Administrative Court who intentionally did not submit her 2020 e-declaration;
- a suspect in the so-called Gas case, who hid from the investigation for six years and was arrested only in early May 2022;
- five persons accused of causing UAH 67.73 million in losses to the state-owned Ukrtelefilm (the Ukrainian Television Film Studio).
NABU and SAPO completed investigations regarding:
- the director of Izium Instrument-Making Plant (a subsidiary of Ukroboronprom State Concern) suspected of taking UAH 2.44 million in undue advantage and not declaring real estate abroad;
- a lawyer and an assistant judge of the Odesa Court of Appeal suspected of an attempt to bribe a judge of the Odesa Court of Appeal with USD 1.7 thousand;
- the former deputy prosecutor of the Lviv region suspected of embezzling UAH 1.2 million and abuse of office, which caused damage to the state of almost half a million hryvnias;
- a Kyiv region city mayor and a real estate owner suspected of causing more than UAH 8.7 million in damages to the territorial community;
- the acting director of the State Enterprise "Okhtyrsky Bakery Combine" suspected of grain misappropriation worth over UAH 3.2 million;
- a former MP suspected of illegally receiving UAH 127.4 thousand in compensation for housing;
- the director of the state-owned road maintenance enterprise in the Poltava region who abused his official position and misappropriated UAH 29 million from the state road fund;
- six participants in a corruption scheme involving the purchase of COVID-19 PCR testing services for Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) staff.
NABU and SAPO served suspicion notices to:
- the former director and deputy director of the Zhytomyr Armored Plant, who embezzled plant's property worth more than UAH 4.5 million;
- two persons who incited the accused in the case, which is currently being heard in the High Anti-Corruption Court, to provide an illegal benefit for allegedly further bribing of the SAPO prosecutor;
- a senior investigator of the Mykolaiv Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation;
- three State Border Guard Service (SBGS) officials and two civilians who organized a scheme of illegal border crossing by conscripted male citizens of Ukraine;
- five persons who embezzled over UAH 27.3 million during the construction of a preschool educational institution in the Kyiv region.
In November, NABU and SAPO obtained the extradition of the general director of a private enterprise, suspected of involvement in the embezzlement of UAH 6.5 million from Derzhinformiust SE, who had been wanted for almost five years.
Last month, 51 National Bureau employees who showed high professionalism during russia's armed aggression against Ukraine were awarded medals “For Assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine”, certificates and honorary certificates from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
