UAH 361 thousand of illegal cash compensation payments for housing: indictment as of the MP was sent to court

The investigation as of the facts of illegally received from the state budget cash compensation payments in the amount of UAH 361 thousand for renting a room in the “Kyiv” Hotel by the Member of Parliament (MP) of the VII and VIII convocations was completed. On May 19, 2020, the indictment was sent to court. The person is accused of committing a crime under Part 2 Article 364 (Abuse of authority or office) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

 

The investigation revealed that in November 2014, the ex-MP received cash payments for rental a room in the “Kyiv” Hotel, as he did not have his own apartment in Kyiv.

The NABU Detectives revealed that in early March 2017, the MP inherited an apartment in Kyiv. He did not inform the Office of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine about this. This allowed him to receive cash compensation payments from the state budget and further.

Only in October 2018, after the appearance of a number of publications in the media, the MP refused to receive funds. Over the past year and a half, as the investigation established, the MP illegally received from the state budget for rental housing over UAH 361 thousand.

The NABU Detectives started a pre-trial investigation as of those facts in October 2018 and completed in February 2020. In December 2019, the MP was given a notice of suspicion.

In general, due to the NABU investigations over UAH 1.65 million of the compensation payments illegally received by the Members of Parliament of the VIII convocation was returned to the State. In addition, a number of the MPs revised their need for compensation and refused it. As a result, taking into account the amount of the monthly compensation payments, during December 2018 — January 2019, the Office of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine saved about UAH 4 million.
