The National Bureau continued to effectively fight corruption under martial law, while its employees joined the fight against the external enemy in the ranks of the Armed Forces, helped record the crimes of the occupiers, and conducted analytical work. This was noted by acting NABU Director Gizo Uglava at the IACC 2022 on Dec. 9, 2022, in Washington, USA.
Despite the objective difficulties in conducting investigations under martial law, NABU and SAPO have not stopped their work and are stepping up the pace. This was noted by acting NABU Director Gizo Uglava during this year's International Anti-Corruption Conference in Washington, Dec. 6, 2022.
The National Bureau scrupulously checks all the reports of crimes, including information on how and under what circumstances a person became aware of a possible offense. This was emphasized by NABU Detective Oleksandr Abakumov on June 24, 2021 at the International Conference "Whistleblowers in Ukraine: Success and Challenges".
In six years, the National Bureau has sent 944 requests for international legal assistance to more than 75 countries. This indicates not only the spread of Ukrainian corruption in the world but also shows that without international cooperation the fight against corruption is impossible.
“Corruption in the 21st century has become a transnational phenomenon. Therefore, the fight against it is not only the task of a certain state, it is an issue global security,” First Deputy Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine Gizo Uglava said.
