International partners support the NABU in its fight against corruption
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) continues expand the range of strategic partners at the international level. The outcome of the fight against top-level corruption depends on a large extent on the effective interaction of the competent authorities of different countries. This was emphasized by the NABU Director Artem Sytnyk at the international conference "Strengthening transparency and accountability to ensure integrity: united against corruption". The event was held on October 15-16, 2018, in the Republic of Croatia.
The conference was organized by the Ministry of Justice of Croatia and the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) of the Council of Europe. The participation of the NABU became possible under the support of the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative in Ukraine.
"The NABU Detectives found out that companies involved in corruption offenses in Ukraine are registered in 23 countries on three continents. The law enforcement officers of most of these countries within the framework of international legal assistance provide the necessary evidence in criminal proceedings. This evidence allows the NABU Detectives to track financial flows and establish final beneficiaries of corrupt companies", said Artem Sytnyk.
The NABU Director, as well as heads of authorized agencies from different countries, had signed the Declaration launching an international network of national anti-corruption bodies. The signatories of this document confirmed the readiness to prevent and combat corruption through joint actions, and to promote, within the framework of the powers granted, to colleagues from other countries.
In addition, during the conference, the NABU delegation had a number of meetings with representatives of law enforcement agencies. In particular, the meeting with the Hong Kong delegation resulted in agreement to continue cooperation in the area of exchanging experience and raising the level of skills of employees.
