NABU representative learned Japan's experience in cross-border investigations

The Legal Counsel of the International Legal Division, Legal Department of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) Olesia Marenych learned the current situation on corruption in the world, general measures of its prevention, the creation of an effective criminal justice and international cooperation. This knowledge was gained during the International Training Course on the Criminal Justice Response to Corruption in Tokyo, Japan.

The program members participated in discussions with representatives of the criminal justice authorities and leading business companies, visited courts and law enforcement agencies. The features of collecting electronic evidence and cryptocurrency transactions were observed on the example of Japan successful cases. Olesia Marenych presented the Ukrainian experience in investigating corruption cases as of top officials in the interaction with international institutions.

The training course lasted from October 6 until November 16, 2019, at the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders. The program was supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency at the expense of the Government of Japan.

It should be reminded that the cooperation between the NABU and Japanese institutions started in 2018. Since then, employees of the National Bureau have carried out three study visits.
