Anti-bribery management system of the NABU is recognized as the best in Europe for 2019
Anti-bribery management system of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) is recognized as the best in Europe for 2019. According to the results of ISO 37001:2016 audit process conducted by PECB Group Inc. in April 2019 the NABU was named the winner of European Audited Business of the Year award at the Award Ceremony, held in Brussels on October 3, 2019.
“National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine is the first law enforcement agency in Ukraine and one of the first law enforcement agencies in Europe, which confirmed the full compliance of its anti-bribery management systems with the requirements of the international standard ISO 37001:2016. In the preparation for audit process, we have a lot of work to do. We improved procedures for assessing corruption risks, and introduced additional mechanisms for monitoring and controlling the NABU employees. After receiving the corresponding Certificate in April 2019, we are actively guided by the requirements of ISO 37001:2016 in our activities,” said the Head of the NABU Internal Control Department Roman Osypchuk.
According to him, in 2019, about 200 agreements between the NABU and business entities were analyzed for corruption risks in accordance with ISO 37001: 2016.
“We hope that other government agencies and authorities in Ukraine will also be audited in order to receive certification and confirm that their anti-bribery management systems meets the requirements of international standards,” noted Roman Osypchuk.
He also recalled that since August 2017 the NABU has been continuing to implement another international standard ISO/IEC 27001:2015. It defines the requirements for the development, implementation, operation, monitoring, revision, maintenance and continuous improvement of the Information Security Management System.
It should be reminded that in April 2019, the NABU received the Certificate, which confirmed the full compliance of its anti-bribery management systems with the requirements of the international standard ISO 37001:2016. The decision on granting certification was based on expert opinion according to the results of the audit, conducted by PECB Group Inc. (Montreal, Canada). The certification process was pided into several stages and lasted for 10 months. The audit was carried out on the initiative of the NABU executives and with the support of the European Union Anti-Corruption Initiative in Ukraine (EUACI).
The certificate is valid for 3 years. However, the organization annually confirms the compliance of the anti-corruption management systems with high standards and international best practices.
