NABU's activities are extremely important for the future of Ukraine — the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine
"The National Bureau is at the forefront of the fight against corruption in Ukraine. The challenges you face make your job even more important. It's about building a new Ukraine — stable, effective and democratic", said the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch during the meeting with the staff of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine on September 27, 2018.
The US Ambassador to Ukraine reminded that her country was supporting new law enforcement agencies from the very beginning. This support, assured Marie Yovanovitch, will be provided further.
"NABU is experiencing a stage of formation and development. This is a very complicated task, but I know that you will be able to handle it," the Ambassador stressed. "The Ukrainian people have given you a mandate to prosecute corrupt officials. During these several years, there have been many victories — 155 criminal proceedings have been sent to the court. You are dealing with some of the most powerful and some of the most corrupt people in this country. We are aware of what pressure you are in, and sometimes it is not just pressure but a real danger".
Answering the questions of NABU’s staff on the evaluation of the process of setting up the High Anti-Corruption Court in Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch expressed her assurance that the new institution will be formed on the principles of openness and transparency. In this context, the involvement of international experts in the formation of the High Anti-Corruption Court is a positive step.
