Support of international partners is very important for the NABU - Artem Sytnyk

The support of the internationals partners of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) in the pre-trial investigations and of ensuring of the functional independence is very important. This was stressed by the NABU Director Artem Sytnyk at the first meeting of the Supervisory Board of the European Union’s Anti-Corruption Initiative in Ukraine (EUACI) on June 22, 2017.

 

 

"The support of our international partners over the past two years was crucial for the establishment of the Bureau. Every arrest conducted by the NABU shows that in Ukraine, unfortunately, we have a few friends", said Artem Sytnyk.

The Director of the Bureau informed on the actual investigations of the NABU, and also mentioned that due to the NABU`s work 116 million UAH were returned to the State Enterprises accounts.

At the meeting the NABU Director expressed his gratitude to the international partners for the assistance in Bureau's establishing and for the support of the its functional independence.

The European Union’s Anti-Corruption Initiative in Ukraine is the largest EU support program in the fight against corruption. The EUACI will be launched in cooperation with the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA). The initiative with a duration of three years is supported by the European Commission with 15.84 million EUR and by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs with 1,34 million EUR. The objective of the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative is to strengthen the capacity of the newly created anti-corruption institutions and to provide  international expertise to the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, to strengthen the capacity of civil society and the media.

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine is one of the beneficiaries of the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative, and the NABU Director is a member of the Supervisory Board, which is the formal mechanism of joint decision-making on the implementation of the Anti-Corruption Initiative between the Kingdom of Denmark, Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine and the main beneficiary institutions.
