NABU strengthens cooperation with Interpol
The National Anti-Corruption of Ukraine (NABU) strengthens international cooperation in the framework of the INTERPOL’s Global Focal Point Platform on Asset Recovery. The details of the cooperation were discussed at the 7th Annual INTERPOL-StAR Global Focal Points Conference on Asset Recovery in Ottawa (held on June 6-8, 2017).
From the NABU the Head of the International Legal Department of the Legal Department Oleksandr Tomieiev participated in the event. He is the contact person of the Bureau for work in the INTERPOL Secure Communications for Asset Recovery (I-SECOM) since 2016.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to get acquainted with the opportunities offered by the Platform to law enforcement agencies with regars to the investigation of corruption crimes and establish contacts and to agree on further cooperation with foreign jurisdictions.
The INTERPOL’s Global Focal Point Platform covers more than 200 people from law enforcement agencies around the world. Cooperation with the Platform the National Bureau is able to receive information on corruption crimes promptly and collect data in criminal proceedings prior to official International Legal Assistance procedure is initiated.
It should be reminded that Ukrainian corruption “left traces” in 41 countries.

Launched in 2009, INTERPOL’s Global Focal Point Platform on Asset Recovery established jointly with the StAR (the Stolen Asset Recovery Initiative as a partnership between the World Bank and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) with the aim of assisting practitioners overcome operational barriers associated with international asset recovery.
The strategic goal of the Platform is to expand international cooperation of law enforcement agencies to detect, arrest, confiscate and return stolen assets using the information exchange, including restricted access by the anti-corruption authorities of the member States of Interpol.
