U.S. Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch visits the NABU

During her visit to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine on November 28, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch said “the work of NABU and SAPO is important and not easy. Ukrainian people do want change. However, these changes will not happen without sentences in top-corruption cases. That is why the United States supports the idea of creating an Anticorruption Court in Ukraine.”

Speaking with NABU leadership and detectives, as well as the prosecutors of SAPO, the Ambassador has expressed her conviction that only the joint efforts of newly formed law enforcement agencies could change Ukraine and fight corruption. "The indicator of where Ukraine is in comparison with other countries is the place Ukraine occupies in its fight against corruption," Ambassador underscored.

NABU and SAPO representatives spoke about the major achievements and current challenges, in particular, recent amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code and trial delays.

"Inspired by the committed professionals, sense of mission at the NABU and SAPO. Ukrainians should feel proud of these heroes fighting corruption – Ukraine’s biggest challenge. Proud to be your partners" - said the US Ambassador.
