NABU`s investigations help to reduce unprofitability of the State Enterprises – Artem Sytnyk
Thanks to the work of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) the activities of State Enterprises have become more transparent. Thus, the effectiveness of the state assets use efficiency is increasing. This was underlined by the NABU Director Artem Sytnyk at the meeting with the representatives of the Special Investigation Service (STT) on March 27, 2017.
«The Bureau’s active actions force potential corrupt officials to reconsider their actions, because the NABU hinders their criminal intentions,» he stressed.
To illustrate the case, the NABU Director mentioned that six months after the NABU had revealed and then terminated the public funds embezzlement scheme while producing and selling gas under joint operation agreements with the PJSC Ukrgasvydobuvannia (the so-called «Onyshchenko’s gas case»), the profit of PJSC Ukrgazvydobuvannia reached 162 million UAH. In comparison almost three years of cooperation with these state-owned entities, controlled by MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko, brought Ukrgazvydobuvannia 25 million UAH of profit only.
Artem Sytnyk also stressed that the dialogue with civil society is very important: «Civil society is our key partner in Ukraine».
However, he also stressed on the need to establish the Specialized Anti-Corruption Court. The establishment of such courts will facilitate the sentencing process on the cases investigated by the NABU.
The Head of the Special Investigation Service of the Republic of Lithuania Saulius Urbanavičius noted that corruption remains a problematic issue for Lithuania, but the scope is smaller. The STT works in close cooperation with the Prosecutor General’s Office of Lithuania and has the support of the government.
«Too bad that such situation takes place in your country. On the other hand, it`s good that the NABU returns Ukraine to life,» said Saulius Urbanavičius.
