NABU employees will strengthen cooperation with Europol and Eurojust
The employees of the Legal Department of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine visited the European Union's Judicial Cooperation Unit (Eurojust) in Hague (the Netherlands) on March 14-15, 2018. The visit was organized by the invitation of Eurojust and under project "European Union's Anti-Corruption Initiative in Ukraine".
The representatives of the NABU and the Eurojust’s counterparts discussed the mutual law assistance in criminal proceedings in particular related to the application of the provisions of the European Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters (1959) and tothe Second Additional Protocol to the European Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters (2001). Also, the NABU employees discussed the peculiarities of bilateral interactionwith representatives of the states with which the NABU cooperates.
Also, the NABU delegation visited the European Police Office (Europol). At the meetingwere discussed practical aspects of cooperation within the framework of the Ukraine’s and Europol’s Agreement on Operational and Strategic Cooperation.
It should be reminded that the NABU has been starting cooperation with Eurojust since 2016. Within the framework of this cooperation a number of coordination meetings were conducted in order to increase the effectiveness of investigations of corruption-related offences.For expose Ukrainian top-corruptors, the NABU directed 300 requests to 57 states. 130 of them were satisfied. Top five countries with the biggest quantity of requests from the NABU are Latvia, Cyprus, Austria, United Kingdom, and Switzerland. The biggest number of requests for international legal assistance were sent in terms of the investigations of the alleged embezzlement of funds of the State Enterprise «Eastern Mining and Processing Plant» (53 requests) and the «Energoatom» case (19 requests).
