USA committed to continue support of the Ukrainian anti-corruption agencies — United States Assistant Secretary of State
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) Detectives and the Prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) investigate resonant corruption crimes committed by top-officials. The United States of America supports their efforts by understanding how difficult it is to work under conditions of possible pressure and criticism. This what the United States Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Kirsten D. Madison emphasized at the briefing on October 19, 2018.
"Fighting corruption is a hard work. It means that you have to have an ability to investigate, to prosecute and to hold corrupt inpiduals at cameras. There are three institutions on anti-corruption issues in Ukraine — the NABU, the SAPO and newly created, still be formed the High Anti-Corruption Court. All of these institutions will mean to work together to actually take on this issue and address in a way that I think would be satisfactory to the citizens of Ukraine", said Ms. Madison.
As the United States Assistant Secretary of State said, passing legislation to establish the High Anti-Corruption Court was an important stage. Taking the next steps to establish completely functioning independent and effective court is crucial to Ukraine’s development. "We expect Ukraine will establish the court properly, as promised by government," Kirsten D. Madison said.
During her visit, Ms. Madison learned about the conditions and features of the institution and had a conversation with the NABU Director and Detectives.
